Description
Background
ATP-binding cassette, sub-family G member 2 (ABCG2) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ABCG2 gene. It has also been designated as CDw338 (cluster of differentiation w338). This protein is a member of the White subfamily. The ABCG2 gene is mapped to human chromosome 4q22. The ABCP gene produces 2 transcripts that differ at the 5-prime end and encode the same 655-amino acid protein and highly expressed in the placenta. It functions as a xenobiotic transporter which may play a role in multi-drug resistance to chemotherapeutic agents including mitoxantrone and camptothecin analogues.
